Landscape of a Drawing
I have been drawing mountains of sticks, constructions held in a precarious balance.
I am currently making bas-reliefs and sculpture installations based on these drawings. The installations attempt to replicate the process of drawing that I experience in 2-D on paper with a construction process using wood pieces to build the environment or landscape of a drawing.
The sculpture installations are constructed with loose pieces. They are “drawn” into place and shift around to find their nesting spot within the sculpture as it is built. They are not nailed, glued or pinned in any way. In some places drawings are placed within the structural pieces. The drawings and the sculptural forms reflect and complement one another.
all the pieces support each-other …when a stick is removed the structure collapses creating a new structure. we can say the installation is more of a “happening” than a sculpture.
I documented in intervals and then choosing some images I made big reproductions , and close ups, than some of them are used for other pieces…
